We have further discussed and have finalized on 3 place to visit for the R&R (Reviews & Recommendation) article section. We have decided to merge both "Popular Places" and "Unique Places" together, and we will be using the wireframe for popular places for the R&R. The 3 places are : Aboong Cafe which is located in SS15, Bowery Petit which is in KL, and finally Okonomi that is located in Publika. This section of article will feature a 360 degree photo of the cafe's interior, images of several desserts from the cafe, google map location, reviews and other informations. We have also discussed about the Traditional desserts article, and have finally decided on 2 desserts for the article. The chosen desserts are Mooncake and Rava Ladoo. We will be featuring images of the dessert, the dessert's backstories, recipes, and the list of ingredients. For the next article, we will be featuring a Top 3 dessert of the month and a quiz. We made a poll to survey among teenagers what their favourite dessert is, and here are the results. We have also came up with the quiz questions. Below are the questions and the answers of the quiz.
Which Dessert matches your personality the most? Results:

We received many feedback from Mr. Razif after a consultation and here is the feedback he gave. We have discussed a short while after the consultation session, and we have came up with several ideas to give our e-magazine a more interesting touch such as featuring a 360 degree panoramic photo and linking websites and maps for the users' convenience. We have also came up with an idea of featuring a quiz in our magazine to replace one of the main topic articles. After discussing the details within the extra article, and some touch ups, we all separated our jobs to make the wireframes and slides of each page on our own at home. The slides were made by each of us in the team. For the cover design Wireframes, Qhalim did them. I did the wireframes for the #1 Places article. Angel did the wireframes for the #2 Traditional Desserts article. Yasmin did the wireframes for the #3 Quiz article. Here are the slides for our presentation. After we have finished the presentation on our proposal, we have received a couple of feedback, which are :
As we didn't have enough time to discuss further about the magazine's layout, we decided to give ourselves a task which is to sketch at least 4 layout/wireframe of our own ideas for the magazine before the next meet up. After meeting up to further discuss about the design and layout of the magazine, each of us have prepared our minimum of 4 sketches regarding the layout and design of how we want the magazine to be. Sketches will be shown in the gallery below. After reviewing every single one of them, we have decided to mix and match the elements from all the sketches that we like and we feel that are suitable for the magazine. We have settled with the original cover page concept, with the animated close up shot of a dessert being decorated, and the titles are then animated in a sticky note style and slides into the cover page. We think that the sticky note style would give it an extra nice touch for the colours of the cover page as it attracts the audiences. We decided to make our table of content page a follow up of the cover page in animation, as the user swipe left, the cover page as well as the dessert moves to the left side, and instead of the dessert being decorated, the dessert will be eaten (a spoon scooping a small part away) and the titles would also be animated in a sticky note style on the right hand side. Both of the cover page and the table of content are from my sketches as shown as below. The rough sketch of both of the pages are done by Casey as shown below of the 2 images. After the cover page and the table of content page, we decided to select Casey's sticky note style for the Easy Recipe to Make at Home. While the Chef's recipe would be Qhalim's first concept mixed with Angelica's layout sketch. As for the Recommendation and Review of Cafes, we chose to use Angelica's fifth idea mixed with Casey's flatlay idea (which is idea #3). For the Vegan and Healthy dessert content, we chose the top part of Qhalim's third idea with some tweaks. And finally for the traditional dessert, we chose Casey's fifth and sixth idea combined together. The rough sketch of the layout will be shown below. Few images below are some of our references and inspirations.
The next few dessert recipes are from several different websites and Youtube videos so I will list the names of the dessert and attach a picture or a video of them. The desserts are Nama Matcha Chocolate and Panna Cotta.
Next, we have the Chef's Recipes which are desserts that are slightly harder to make at home or desserts that are not very common in cafes and restaurants. First off we have Lemon Pie Meringue, and then the next dessert we have listed is eclairs.
The next content we have is Places to go ; Cafes and Restaurants that are popular among Malaysians and also Cafes and Restaurants that serves special and creative desserts. This section will serve as a recommendation and reviews of the desserts as we visit a few selected Cafes. Under the Popular Cafes among Malaysians, we have chosen Snowflake, Nana's Green Tea, Fat Baby and Soft Serve to visit and review the desserts there. We have also chosen a few other Cafes that serves special and creative desserts, like Aboong, Coffeestain, Acme Bar & Coffee and Garage 51. Next up, the few dessert we picked for the Vegan and Healthy dessert recipes was :
Last but not least, we have also selected desserts for the Traditional Dessert article section. We've picked :
As for when viewers wants to go to the next page from the magazine cover, they would proceed
to the Table of Contents page which we want it to look like a menu from a fine dining restaurant. We thought of two ways to animate from the cover to the table of contents page which is still under discussion which one will be chosen. Below are the notes and sketches from the brainstorming and discussion session.
Most magazines for dessert have simple, short and easily understood words for their titles such as FOOD, TASTY. DELIGHT, SWEET CRAVINGS, FOODIE and such. With these inspirations I came up with the name INDULGE. It was put into consideration to become one of the magazine title, but we chose Casey's idea which is SWEET TOOTH or M.A.D. which stands for Magazine About Desserts in the end. The content of the magazine were originally going to be a magazine that features Cafes and Restaurants with popular desserts. We then decided to also feature healthy (gluten free and vegan) desserts as one of the content alongside with reviews and recommendation of desserts from the popular places Malaysians love to go for desserts. We then also suggested to add in Easy recipes for lazy people at home and Chef's secret recipes for extra content. One of my suggestions to the team is to also feature unique traditional desserts from different races and culture in Malaysia, they gladly accepted my suggestion. Finally we have a small section for advertisements. |
